Apple had been expected to put Phil Schiller onto OpenAI’s board as a non-voting observer, following the two companies partnership in Apple Intelligence. Similarly, Microsoft put an observer in place following 2023’s chaotic ousting and then re-hiring of OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.
According to multiple sources including the Financial Times, however, Microsoft has now withdrawn its observer. A source said to have direct knowledge of the matter, says that Apple will no longer take an observer board position.
