Apple will give its upcoming Everest drama “Tenzing” its first theatrical release of the year before bringing the film to Apple TV, continuing its strategy of debuting select prestige films on the big screen.

“Tenzing” opens in select theaters on October 9 before making its debut on Apple TV on October 16. Apple announced the release dates alongside the film’s first details, cast, and creative team.
Genden Phuntsok stars as Tenzing Norgay, while Tom Hiddleston plays New Zealand climber Edmund Hillary. Based on true events, the film tells the story of the first successful ascent of Mount Everest through Norgay’s perspective.
