How to turn Jellyfin on an old Mac into a private streaming service

Film fans with a massive movie collection can make their own mini Netflix by using Jellyfin and a Mac as a file server. Here’s how to create your own home video streaming service.

Streaming services like Netflix, Disney+, and Apple TV+ are great ways to watch movies and TV shows without needing to actually own the physical media. However, if you already have a copy of a movie on DVD or Blu-ray, the only real benefit to watching it via an Internet streaming service is convenience.

If you have a sizable movie collection that you regularly go through, the last thing you want is to pay tens of dollars per month for the privilege of not having to switch discs in a Blu-ray player or a game console.
