Apple TV has signed “Homeland” creator Gideon Raff to produce a new espionage series based on a thriller by best-selling author Dan Fesperman.

Apple TV has long had a reputation for science fiction hits, such as “Silo,” but the streamer is building one for thrillers. As well as “Slow Horses” and the same team’s new “Down Cemetery Road,” it has now ordered an eight-part espionage series called “Safe Houses.”
Based on the 11th thriller by ex-journalist Dan Fesperman, it concerns the aftermath when a high-ranking CIA officer is murdered in Madrid. The murder is then investigated simultaneously by his widow, and by a fugitive agent accused of the crime.
