
Code in the latest beta adds new gesture recognition tools to several Apple apps. Safari gets a touch sentinel recognizer, Photos has PXGTouchDwellGestureRecognizer, Notes has ICTouchPressGestureRecognizer, and Quick Look gets a dragTouch feature.
While the code could be for the touchscreen MacBook, it’s also applicable to Sidecar. macOS Golden Gate brought full touch input to Sidecar, which is the feature that lets an iPad be used as a display for a Mac. It’s possible Apple is expanding on those Sidecar features, so it’s not a clear indication of a new Mac.
Touch-friendly changes started with the launch version of macOS Golden Gate, which added pull-to-refresh gestures in Safari, Mail, and Calendar.
An OLED MacBook Ultra with touchscreen capabilities could launch as soon as late 2026. The device is rumored to be thinner and lighter than existing models, and it’s expected to have a Dynamic Island and Apple’s M5 Pro and M5 Max chips.
